Publisher Insights⚓︎

Publisher Insights provides publishers with namespace-level insights for artifacts hosted on Maven Central. Basic Insights are displayed in the Publisher Insights tab of the Maven Central Portal, with additional insights available through Scarf.

Basic Insights⚓︎

Publisher Insights displays the following Basic Insights metrics for each enrolled namespace:

  • Total Downloads: The cumulative number of times artifacts in the selected namespace have been downloaded.
  • Unique Sources: The number of distinct IP addresses, organizations, connection type, location, user agent sources that have accessed artifacts from the selected namespace.
    • Connection types include ISP, hosting, business, government, education or any unknown source.
  • Total Companies: The count of identified organizations utilizing components from the selected namespace.

Three months of historical Basic Insights data are available to all Maven Central publishers with enrolled namespaces.

Additional Insights⚓︎

Additional insights are available through Scarf. Maven Central publishers receive an exclusive 30-day premium trial for deeper insights from Maven Central downloads, in addition to Scarf's free analytics. For these additional insights, log in to your Scarf Dashboard after completing the enrollment process.

Example metrics available in Scarf include:

  • Downloads by Package
  • Downloads by Country
  • Downloads by Date
  • Download insights per company, industry, geography, and more
  • Version upgrade insights
  • Downloads by public clouds
  • Retention metrics and churn detection
  • Adoption funnel analysis

Access Publisher Insights⚓︎

  1. Navigate to https://central.sonatype.com/publishing/insights in the Maven Central Portal
  2. In the Publisher Insights banner, select Unlock Insights

Selecting Unlock Insights starts the Scarf setup process and sends an email to the email address associated with your Maven Central Portal account.

Enroll a Namespace⚓︎

After unlocking Publisher Insights, you can enroll namespaces to view insights using either of the following methods:

Method 1: Enroll from Publisher Insights Tab⚓︎

  1. In Publisher Insights, select Enroll Namespace
  2. Choose the namespace(s) you want to enable insights for
  3. Select Enroll

When you see the successfully enrolled confirmation banner, Basic Insights are displayed for that namespace.

Method 2: Enroll from Namespaces Tab⚓︎

  1. Navigate to the Namespaces tab
  2. Select the options menu (⋮) beside the namespace you want to enable insights for
  3. Select Enable Insights from the dropdown options

View Insights for a Namespace⚓︎

After you have enrolled one or more namespaces, or when insights have been enrolled by another user:

  1. Open the Namespaces dropdown in Publisher Insights
  2. Select the namespace you want to review

The dashboard updates to display the Basic Insights for the selected namespace.

Accessing Insights Enrolled by Another User⚓︎

If insights for a namespace have been unlocked by another user, you can view Basic Insights directly in the Publisher Insights tab without additional setup. The email address of the user who unlocked insights is displayed in the Publisher Insights tab.

Note

To access Additional Insights in Scarf for namespaces enrolled by another user, contact the user whose email address is displayed in Publisher Insights. Only the user who completed the Scarf enrollment for that particular namespace can grant access to the Scarf Dashboard for that namespace.
